A dulcimer in ambrosia maple with a double back to allow it to be played on the lap, but without deadening/dampening the sound. This design was inspired “The Two-Storey Dulcimer” by Roger Alan Skipper, Originally published in American Lutherie #101, 2010.
I added sharp boat-back and a newly designed headstock that allows:
-The strings to travel in line, and not bunch in the center of the headstock
-The string break-angle to be 15-degrees for all strings
-All tuners are on the player-side of the headstock to allow more comfortable wrist angle while tuning
-A 1/2″ peg hole at the top to allow the dulcimer to be hung on the wall
The fretboard is lower than many mountain dulcimers for comfort and to compensate for the deeper body.
